How Difference between two Countries

I was born in Thailand. Before I came here, I worked at The Telecommunication Company for six years. When I worked, I found English Language very important for my job. I decided to come here to study English and improve my English language. English language is an obstacle for me when I worked in my country. It’s one of the important for all people to communicate or do business with other countries. I have many experiences when I came here. There are many different between Thailand and the US. However, there are three main contrasts that I had to adapt myself to fit in with the US society which are studying method, communication and body contact.
First, Education I learned since I coming to the US. The relationship between student and teacher totally are different from my country. Thai students have high respect for teacher. In America teachers are very friendly with student than my country. In Thailand, when we have a question we shy to ask teacher. We were afraid and ignore that problem. In America, most students keep ask when their have problem. I wasn’t good student in my ESL class because I still shy when I want to communicate with teacher.
Good communication in our life is necessary when I came here. Language is a big problem. Many times I don’t understand English because I don’t know what are American people saying? I don’t know how to ask people when I want something. Once, I went to McDonald’s to order food for myself. After I got my food, I wanted some ketchup. I didn’t know how I called that sauce. I asked “Can I have tomato sauce” but they didn’t understand me. I was very upset and feel bad. I should work hard for practice my English language and learn more new vocabulary.

Body contact is the most important that I have discovered. In my country, people can’t kiss or hug somebody to the opposite sex in public. I was surprised when I saw people kiss each other. In Thailand two girls or two boys can walk together hand in hand. When I came here, my friend told me we can’t do that. Most people in my country don’t accept homosexuality but in here you can do anything you want.
Now I know how important about English language. English language is an obstacle to all people in the world. Communication is our door to the world. I have been learning from my personal experiences when I arrived here. I learned everything. I have to start say “Hi” in English. I learned how to do when we met people. In America we always hug each other. Thailand we have to raise both hands up to people older than us. I managed to learn how to live in America. If you learn more about new country, you will feel comfortable in your new environment.

I agree with you. I think we also came from asia, so we have similar custom. Chinese student also respect the teacher. we cannot paly a joke with teachers, and teacher alway seriousness, but I like American style. It is more casually between student and teacher, and we can easy communicate with each other.

Dear Siritus
This is Heben. I have found common situation with you, especially the relation ship between teachers and student in Thailand and Ethiopia. This situation is going to show us how much students have respect for their teachers. Also I have found common with you about walking the same sex on the street. I was amazing when i saw here the first time.

I agree with you... In thailand we do have a lot of respect in our teacher, cuz they always tell us that the teacher is the second important person from our parents. we can't say anything back to them. Also, when we want to go to the restroom we do have to ask for the permition first, not just walk away..that is totally diff. from USA.
Many time when I was in the class in the USA. I feel just right you when i have a question
" shy " cuz, we not usual with the system that the children can open their mind. but i think we will get use to with it one day
